Sarah believes that the Longmont city government should carefully evaluate
Any policy changes that could have a detrimental effect on the operation and health of our business community.
The Fishbowl event on a higher minimum wage policy had the local business community providing real world implications of this change. What was remarkable about the discussion was how business owners care about their staff. They want the minimum wage to be fair for the training and skills needed for the position. The wage needs to reflect the other economic realities of running a small business.
Businesses need to have reliable processes, regulations and policies so they can concentrate on being successful. At the Minimum Wage Fishbowl event, we heard about how frustrated businesses were with the pace of the city granting permits for what they deemed to be simple permits.
The city cannot relieve a lot of the pressures on businesses right now – higher taxes, cost increases, tariffs, interest rates and the like.
The city can help business by collaborating to create predictability in regulation and permitting.
Sarah Levison supports the city continuing the vendor fee so business does not incur additional costs to remit city taxes.
If elected, Sarah will make it a priority to get to know our local business community. She will meet individually or with a group of owners to listen to their concerns and take suggestions on how to support an environment to help them thrive.
